The Cursed Campaign

Overview

‘The Cursed Campaign’ is an Advanced Dungeons and Dragons campaign. The entire campaign takes place on a world the inhabitants know only as Eyrth. Eyrth is a planet roughly the size of our own world, with as many strange wondrous sights and as many complex and foreign cultures.

On center stage are the twelve ‘Cursed’ and the dark God they worship. After being locked away from Eyrth after a war that nearly destroyed the entire planet, The twelve worked diligently to free themselves from their prison. Now, ages later they have succeeded.

Working silently, like a cancer, they have started to infiltrate the power structures of the various institutions that they found in existence upon their return. The world is not like they left it. At the end of the war, the world had polarized into two globe spanning nations that warred against each other. Now, the planets political structure is a shattered collection of cultures and countries. The ‘Cursed’ see this as a very good thing … for them.

The Isle of Eire

The starting place for the campaign is a little, out of the way island called Eire. Eire is a collection of four nations that share a common ethnic background. This ethnic background is very similar to our Irish Celtic culture.

Back in the time before the polarization of the world into two different nations, the Magocacy that ruled Eyrth created a magical power network that spanned to globe. They also created a magical race of creatures to maintain this network. In the eons since the fall of Magocracy, these caretakers of the network worked diligently to try to stave off the deterioration of the network. Slowly contracting the active network and shutting down the sections that could not be properly maintained the caretakers managed to save some of the network. The current active network covers only the isle of Eire.

Many tales of the caretakers and their network abound on the isle. Talk of the ‘little people’ and the ‘Lay lines’ abound. Currently no one but little children and old men believe in these fairy tales.

Current Situation

The nation of Laigin on the island of Eire, is located on its eastern shore and is the home of the legendary band of heroes called the ‘Ravens’. The Ravens stopped an invasion of the island by the nation of Britannia about ten years previously. Britannia is located on a neighboring island. The PC’s have been apprenticed to the various members of the Ravens and when the King of Laigin summoned the Ravens to his castle in the city of Kilkenny, the PC’s naturally tagged along.

When the King asked the Ravens to embark on a mission, the Ravens considered that this may be a bit too difficult for such fledglings like the PC’s. They made arrangements for the PC’s to spend some time at the clan holdings of one of the members, at village of Coleraine.

To make the journey to Coleraine at least somewhat acceptable to the PC’s, they promised that the PC’s would get to participate in a cattle raid.

[In the ancient Irish/Celtic culture, to steal cattle from another clan brought great honor, and to be able to defend your cattle from the raids of other clans showed your prowess. These raid were mostly bloodless in that to hurt and kill on a raid was taboo.]

The problem the Ravens were sent to investigate was an increase in Goblin activity in the northwestern mountains. What they don’t know is that the Goblins, long considered a non-threat since the invention of gunpowder, has been armed by Britannia with modern weaponry. Instead of a little Goblin ‘problem’, the isle of Eire is about to be overran by a ‘well’ trained and equipped Goblin army.

Of course the king of Britannia is one of the ‘Cursed’, did you have to even ask?
